"Depression is an emotion as old as mankind. Perhaps this is the reason we sometimes fail to look at it as a disease."

(inhale) "A penny for your thoughts?" Sometimes I let it ruminate. When it boils over top, I'm worse off than I thought. "A penny for your thoughts?" Sometimes I let it ruminate. I'm shocked I get it off. I'm worse off than I thought. "How've you been? Is that so? My, oh my, How you've sunk so low." My stomach's tied in knots. Sometimes I let it ruminate. The culprit's all but caught: I'm worse off than I thought. (exhale) Celebrate your smallest victories. Take a step back, what do you see? Bigger pictures often still me. "Waiting Room Blues" count: 1,2,3... A penny for your thoughts. (Celebrate your smallest victories) Sometimes I let it ruminate. (Take a step back, what do you see?) I'm shocked I get it off. (Bigger pictures often still me) I'm worse off than I thought. ("Waiting Room Blues" count: 1,2,3...) A penny for your thoughts. (Celebrate your smallest victories) Sometimes I let it ruminate. (Take a step back, what do you see?) "You're worse off than I thought." (Bigger pictures often still me) I'm worse off than I thought. ("Waiting Room Blues" count: 1,2,3,4)

Could you find a sweeter sound? Pleasant textures to astound For us. Could you tap a gentler beat? A chorus begs for stomping feet For us. For us. Should only be for us. Could you deconstruct its parts and reassemble it in the dark? For us. Could you build, despite great stress, a public platform to confess? For us. For us. Should only be for us. For us. For us. In free verse just for us.

I cannot wrap my head around- His shoulders weep an awful sound, Like a dog. Still we pile it on, and on, and on, and on. I am helpless - Lend a hand! His arms are weak, his back is jammed. He sings a song. Still we pile it on, and on, and on, and on.

Through the reeds and marsh, I saunter. Unfit to fill your shoes, Grand-father. Back-step. Retrace. Form ranks. It's over. Reach out. Speak up. Endure. Crossover. "You're no son of mine. Weakest of my line." Sick until the breeze Sweeps me to my feet. Move through bog, unscathed. Unfettered. False start. Assists come quick, Unbothered. "You're no son of mine." Plays back all the time. Sick until the breeze Sweeps me to my feet. "You're no son of mine." Plays back all the time. Sick until the breeze Sweeps me to my feet.

In no uncertain terms, You stated your beliefs. Most eloquent and clear, Like you practiced on repeat. And though it hurt like hell To speak the simple truth. The world will thank you for it, Or at least the stubborn youth. Way passed the paling vista, In a state we've yet defined, We stand upon the precipice Our heads turned to the side. For we can't bare to see, And much less comprehend: That how we treat each other Isn't just means to an end. Ballpark figures won't do justice, Pressure mounts beneath the earth Ballpark figures won't do justice, When did we forget our worth?

about

"A penny for your thoughts" is a somewhat outdated English idiom with a nearly 500 year history. Much like the production of pennies, its use in everyday conversation has been dwindling by the decade.

Regardless of its original meaning, these days it equates to "how are you?"

This collection of songs, a loosely weaved yet painstakingly conceived concept-album, reflects an extremely personal journey with mental illness. It is not linear. It is not objective. Though I hope beyond hope there is something in it for you; a line, or a word, or a melody, or maybe something else.

Now, with all that being said... A Penny for Your Thoughts?
